SHE
SHE
By: Talya Langer
She’s been hurt.
She’s been used.
She’s been disrespected.
She’s been bullied.
She’s been talked about.
She’s been shattered.
She’s been knocked down.
She’s been broken.
She’s been lied to.
She’s been destroyed.
She’s been deceived.
She cried.
She screamed.
She tried to claw her way out of the deep ditch that is depression.
She failed.
She began to crumble.
She began to crack.
Too many hands pulled the string that held her together, and her fabric began to unravel.
She unfurled.
She began to fray.
She lost her sparkle.
She lost her flame.
So, she let go,
She walked away.
Unsure and
Uncertain,
She untied her tether.
She let go of the reins.
She stopped.
She began to float.
A girl with no ties,
no strings attached.
Nothing holding her together,
but nothing trying to tear her apart.
While she was lost,
floating in empty space,
while silence surrounded her,
and the feeling of being alone set in,
she let out a breath.
One of relief.
One of satisfaction.
One that she had been holding in all her life.
She had finally escaped.
Darkness no longer engulfed her every move.
She was no longer being pulled apart by their words,
because it was quiet where she was.
A deafening silence.
One that she never knew she needed.
One that she would cherish for years to come.
A part of her secretly wished that she had a friend,
a companion,
someone to talk to in solitude,
but she knew that would break her.
So, for now, she was content in her newfound home.
She found solace in the silence.
She was alone, but at least she was whole.
