LET THAT SINK IN

According to society…

Black: A color, a shade, a race, a story made.

Black: Darkness, gloominess, hate, horror, fear, impurity, shadows.

Black: Everything to do with negativity.

White: A color, a light, a race, privilege.

White: Mindfulness, sweetness, intelligence, enlightenment.

White: Everything associated with positivity.

No longer segregated, but societally separated.

What does that say?

It says that society has had a bias, a preference,

has picked a population, a group of people,

a race to relate to, and a color of faces to hate.

But we know that.

This goes deeper than the wounds of my ancestors' backs, imprinted there by whips and ropes,

Helped and scarred over, only to be cracked open again.

This goes further than the route traveled to bring slaves here from Africa.

This is darker than sundown towns.

This is horror like you have never seen.

Racism is deeply embedded in society,

So much so that even the simplest of words, the ones we don’t think twice about using, have an underlying meaning…

We live in a broken system with broken associations.

Negative connotations,

Preconceived notions,

Prejudice,

Hate.

LET THAT SINK IN.
