Do you?

Do you?

By: Talya Langer

Do you ever feel an overwhelming need to cry?

Do you ever feel like you’re breaking on the inside,

feeling the cracks form,

unable to stop the spread?

Do you ever feel the tears threatening to flow down your face

like a midsummer stream—

warm and wet,

beautiful and boundless,

inviting but deadly?

Do you ever feel yourself slipping away,

your soul sliding through the cracks between your fingers?

Do you ever feel the world is too much to bear—

so much that you plead for any possible escape,

a reprieve from reality for one small second?

Do you ever feel your world is ending

for no good reason,

or no reason at all—

other than the pit in your stomach

that has planted its roots without invitation,

only the intention of sprouting and spreading throughout?

A weed that refuses to remove itself.

A pest, an annoyance that will not let itself be forgotten.

It is relentless.

Do you ever feel that living is just a suggestion—

no longer a requirement,

just a request?

Do you ever feel like continuing with life

is only a continuance of pain?

Do you?

Do you ever feel sad?

Do you ever feel just overwhelmed?

Do you ever feel you are currently hurting,

or that the damage has already been done?

Are you depressed?

Or just human?
